Taco Seasoning
Homemade taco seasoning - quick and easy to make, but at least as tasty as the store-bought variety. You also have full control over which ingredients are included.

A pleasant spice mixture that goes perfectly with fried ground beef to make really good taco ground. If you want to use the entire spice mix that this recipe produces, I think it is suitable for approx. 1 kg of ground beef.
Although it's easy to buy a ready-made spice mix, these can sometimes contain certain ingredients that you potentially want to avoid due to things like GMOs and the like. Sometimes the spice mixes contain cheap filler ingredients so it can also make sense from a financial perspective to make your own spice mix. If you want to stay gluten-free, it may also be advisable to check the pre-purchased bags as they sometimes contain things such as e.g. dextrose which MAY be made from wheat (or corn which is then gluten-free).
Obviously the biggest reason for me is that I can experiment with the taste and find something I like - which I did here. I started from some recipes I found online and then did a lot of testing. This is what I came up with and I hope I'm not alone in appreciating the taste of this blend.
So far I have tried this mixture in simple things like taco mince (fried ground beef in a little oil, mixed with the spice mix and a little water that is boiled away over a few minutes) which I think turns out excellent. I have also used it in a "one pot" recipe for taco pasta which I also thought was easy and good.
I think I kept the salt content down enough but still so that it gives enough flavor, but that's the beauty of making your own spice mixes - mix and test until you find something that works for you.
Since the recipe only contains dried ingredients, the finished mixture can be stored for a number of months if it is kept dark and cool in a jar with a lid.
